Bert is a 20 year-old American Cream Draft gelding. He joined our family at 4Heroes as a reminder of our American heritage, with his strength and willingness to work. He loves the attention he receives through our therapeutic equine program. During lessons he enjoys teaching our students mounted archery. Despite being new to the sport he has shown students of all levels a great time.
Our veterans believe he has the most soulful eyes and mesmerizes you when you look into them. He will stare into your eyes until you feel he knows all about you.
It takes a lot of hay and grain to feed Bert, along with general care like keeping his feet trimmed. When we got Bert he immediately needed eye surgery to remove cancer from his eyelid. Bert's amber eyes are more susceptible to these kinds of issues so he needs to wear a face mask constantly to protect his eyes.
