4Heroes Equine Therapy began with a desire to give back to those who have given their all. Susan DiAmbrosio founded 4Heroes Equine Therapy in November 2018, making her dreams of a tranquil horse therapy barn a reality. When Susan's daughter was stationed in Iraq as part of the military police, she relayed countless first-hand stories of escorting her comrades to hospitals where they could be monitored 24/7 and receive the help they desperately needed to escape their dark thoughts. Through the years these stories have stuck with Susan and rooted into her a need to give back to her country.
Studies have found that veterans are at a 22% higher suicide risk than the average population, with twenty taking their own lives each day. Only half of the 30% of veterans in need of mental health care actually receive the help that they need. 4Heroes is dedicated to helping veterans through the equine presence, a method that has proven to be effective in helping veterans connect with others again in a way many once thought they would never feel again. Horses provide a safe space to heal from the inside out, and veterans have reported an increase in self-esteem, self-worth and sense of community, while decreasing their levels of depression, anxiety, and PTSD symptoms.
